3 New Gemini Features Hit Google TV
Google announced a major AI upgrade for Google TV, turning your television from a passive streaming box into an interactive, visual assistant.
By integrating Gemini deeper into the OS, Google is solving the "what should I watch?" dilemma while adding educational deep dives and narrated sports highlights that make your big screen more useful than ever.
1. Richer Visual Answers: Beyond Text
Google TV now adapts its interface to the specific type of question you ask. No more plain text lists, Gemini now provides a "media-rich" response:
- Sports Queries: Ask for a score, and you’ll see a live scorecard along with a direct link to the broadcast.
- How-To & Recipes: Ask "How do I make Matcha?" and Gemini will surface a video tutorial alongside the key steps.
- Movie Nights: Searching for a title now pulls in trailers, reviews, and actor bios in a single, high-resolution view.
2. Educational Deep Dives: Meaningful Screen Time
Turn your TV into a private tutor. The new Deep Dives feature offers narrated, visual breakdowns of complex topics.
- Interactive Learning: Gemini can deconstruct topics like the physiological impacts of cold plunging or the basics of economics through guided, interactive walkthroughs.
- Family Engagement: These deep dives are designed for the big screen, allowing families to explore a subject together and follow up with guided AI-generated questions.
- Access: Find these in the new Gemini tab at the top of your Home screen under the Learn section.
3. Narrated Sports Briefs: Catch Up in Minutes
Following the success of news briefs, Google is launching Sports Briefs for fans who can't catch every live game.
- Narrated Highlights: Get quick, AI-narrated overviews of player news and game summaries from the NBA, NCAA, NHL, MLB, MLS, and NWSL.
- Zero Scrolling: Instead of hunting for clips on your phone, you can see the day's biggest plays and scores as a curated brief on your TV.
Rollout & Availability
- Richer Visual Help: Rolling out today to Gemini-enabled devices (Android TV OS 14+) in the U.S. and Canada.
- Deep Dives & Sports Briefs: Available now in the U.S., with broader device support coming this spring.
- International Expansion: The Gemini for Google TV voice assistant is heading to Australia, New Zealand, and Great Britain later this spring.
Your TV just graduated. With Gemini now handling everything from live scoreboards to interactive science lessons, the biggest screen in the house is finally the smartest one, too.
